Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide
BAN DIHYDROGEN MONOXIDE!
Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination, and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependent, DHMO withdrawal means certain death. Dihydrogen monoxide: * is also known as hydroxl acid, and is the major component of acid rain. * contributes to the "greenhouse effect." * may cause severe burns. * contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape. * accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals. * may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes. * has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients. Contamination is reaching epidemic proportions! Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic ice. DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage in the midwest, and recently California. Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used: * as an industrial solvent and coolant. * in nuclear power plants. * in the production of styrofoam. * as a fire retardant. * in many forms of cruel animal research. * in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical. * as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products. Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer! The American government has refused to ban the production, distribution, or use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of this nation." In fact, the navy and other military organizations are conducting experiments with DHMO, and designing multi-billion dollar devices to control and utilize it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities receive tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use. Ban it before it it too late! |
that sounds terrible and to think of acid rain sends a shiver down my spine! I say, ban it, dont know much of it but it sounfds like its doing the world and life no good in any way.
those symtoms of inhaling it or exposure to it sounds shocking! glad ive never come across it. :p |
there must be benifits of using it though,,, this is a 1 sided post and you should read other things on it before deciding whether you think it should be banned...

i read the whole article, ;) yes there might be, but the outcomes of it are shocking and Nuclear powerplants are deadly and dangerous.
(lol im thinking of sim city now) An additive in junk foods? isnt this a toxic substance? |
Oh man, I drink this stuff every day! And I use it when I brush my teeth, and somes I put some on my comb before putting it in my hair! Sometimes I'll actually use it to mix in my powdered lemonade with a little sugar for a great taste.
Well done Acorn, I got quite the chuckle :) |
I agree with 01wojtowicz..anything has it's own purpose.. with benefits and hazards that are hard to eliminate
Dihydrogen monoxide hoax Dihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) is a scientific-sounding name for water used in a common hoax that illustrates how ignorance of science can lead to misplaced fears among environmental activists and others. The joke involves attributing common attributes and uses of water to "dihydrogen monoxide", then asking people to take action to control this dangerous-seeming chemical. Although this hoax was brought to widespread public attention in 1997, when Nathan Zohner, a 14-year-old student, gathered petitions to ban "DHMO" as the basis of his science project, aptly titled "How Gullible Are We?", the hoax actually predates Zohner by many years (see, for instance, this Usenet posting from 1990 (http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...85a069a2a19d8/)) DHMO The joke usually follows roughly this format: The uses of dihydrogen monoxide are varied and growing: 1. As an industrial solvent and coolant; 2. In nuclear power plants; 3. In the production of styrofoam; 4. As a fire retardant; 5. In many forms of cruel animal research; 6. In the distribution of pesticides; 7. As an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products; The list of risks associated with dihydrogen monoxide include: 1. The substance is a major component of acid rain; 2. Contributes to soil erosion; 3. Accelerates corrosion and breakdown of metals and electrical equipment; 4. Excessive ingestion may cause various unpleasant, though generally not life-threatening, effects; 5. Prolonged contact with its solid form results in severe tissue damage; 6. May cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes; 7. Inhalation, even in small quantities, may cause death; 8. Its gaseous form may cause severe burns; 9. It has been found in the tumors of terminal cancer patients; 10. Withdrawal by those addicted to the substance causes certain death within 168 hours; 11. Large quantities of the substance are dumped into rivers and streams by factories; Nevertheless, the government and corporations continue using it widely, heedless of its grave dangers. |

Yeah well it is water I saw this on another forum and decided to see how many people actually knew it was water but if you look alot of the facts are true the main substance in acid rain well logioclly it would be water
|
Im confused by what you mean, this stuff (DHMO) is water?
Was this a trick question, if it was lol it got me! :p |
Yes, it was a trick. I think to make people realize that they need to investigate things on their own and not take everything they read at face value, even when it's true.
